SDS drills are just for drilling holes, with or without hammer action, and SDS Plus has a feature that stops the bit rotating but keeps the hammer bit going so you can use chisels etc (like a very small breaker).

With an impact drill you can drill well through stone, but if you want to make a hole in a concrete wall, a hammer drill is a must.
